Structured Racism Runs Deep

This is ridiculous and sure enough not surprising that police brutality against black folks is still in full force. I have attended a few community meetings where the police authorities have asked that our community collaborate with them in order to restore peace on the streets. But what these authorities do not realize (or choose not to) is that racism is deeply institutionalized through their training, in other words, through their institutional teaching of what it takes to become a police officer. Therefore, if the police authorities want to see change and if they want to see peace on the streets, they need to start with themselves by rethinking what they have been teaching in the police academies. Respect is a two way street, show us some respect as humans and we’ll take care of our end of the bargain.
